Hot Tomato is a radio station (102.9 FM) in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
The current breakfast line-up consists of Luke Bradnam (twin brother of Ash Bradnam at Nova 106.9), Rob McCasker, and Renae King. Nova announcer Emily-Jade O'Keefe was among the founding breakfast crew when the station first launched. Another notable personality is former Australian Idol constant Stu Campbell, who formerly hosted the night show but now does weekends.
Hot Tomato was the first radio station in Queensland to use the "no-more-than-two-ads-in-a-row" style, getting around the Nova trademark by calling it "only ever two ads in a row." Hot Tomato also prides itself on on-the-hour news updates and has a dedicated journalist team.
It was obvious that a face lift was required to keep the image of Hot Tomato fresh and funky as well as listeners now expect interaction with a radio station via many different means. “When we first viewed the site it looked a like a bunch of banners” Daren Hawes, CEO of Web Design Magic said.
“I got the pleasure of re-designing the Hot Tomato website, to design a website like nothing before and as feedback has proven we have accomplished just that” lead graphic designer Gavin Campbell-Wilson explained. “The website is very graphical compared to the old one and we needed to utilize the fast loading and video streaming capabilities of Flash (www.adobe.com) as well as create a trendy, quirky new look that would download fast and be appealing to the listener and most importantly unique from other radio stations.” Gavin said.
Complimented with a maintenance package and SLA (Service Level Agreement), Web Design Magic was able to provide Hot Tomato the on going support they required. “Sometimes we work daily on the website. By keeping the content fresh and constantly changing we have enticed visitors to come back again and again.” Gavin said.
Overall, Hot Tomato’s new website has proven its success in both a statistical form as well as listener appreciation. Listeners can now enter competitions, listen to live feeds, participate in polls and read about their favorite announcers.
