In typical racing style, Dick Johnson needed a website fast. With the fantastic news of the Jim Beam sponsorship the new site had to be created, tested and running within 21 days!
Australia’s longest established racing team, Dick Johnson Racing (DJR), recently officially announced Jim Beam, flag-ship brand of Beam Global Spirits and Wine in Australia, as the major team sponsor for the next three years.
As an extension of Jim Beam’s major sponsorship of the 2007 V8 Supercars Championship Series, the DJR team will be known as ‘Jim Beam Racing’ in 2007. Web Design Magic was contracted to create the new website that included a totally new solution that could be managed from in house staff.
“The system consists of a robust Microsoft 2005 SQL server and a powerful back end” commented Scott O’Sullivan, System Architect and Developer for Web Design Magic. “We needed to create something that looks sporty as well as functionial” he continued to say.
The website consists of a membership area, mini forum, full blown online store and dynamic results. “We had to create all the front and backbend in a record 21 days! The dynamic results are simply obtained once and we used some server side code to create the reports you see. It is pointless manually updating these results, and when you think about it, it would be quite painful!” Scott said.
The site is maintained on a regular basis with Web Design Magic’s maintenance products as well as the ability for the in house staff to manage the day to day running of the site.
“DJR’s build schedule is extremely tight, and due to Web Design Magic’s partnership-style operation, we were on track and was confident that our deadlines would be met” Jonathan Ede, Marketing & Media Manager for Dick Johnson Racing said.
"Daren and his team have gone the extra mile to familiarize themselves with not only our business, but our industry, to ensure the design and functionality meet our standards and the site is superior when benchmarked against our competitors" Jonathan continued.
“Even thought the site was completed on record time this does not mean the site was rushed or just slapped together” explained CEO of Web Design Magic, Daren Hawes. “By taking a project managed approach and firstly spending a few of those 21 days, we can easily create a project plan that all the team can follow. Imagine building a house without a plan, probably get completed but not within 21 days!” he continued.
The new website can be found at www.djr.com.au. Best of luck to the boys and we wish them the best for the future.
